With the increasing urgency of environmental issues - from climate change and energy shortages to waste disposal and water conservation - the more you can educate today’s younger generations, the better. After all, as today’s youngsters mature into adulthood, they will continue to face many of the environmental problems being dealt with today. What’s more, the rate at which the world is developing means the young people of today might have to deal with such issues on a more serious level in future years.

But raising consciousness about environmental issues isn’t just about a lesson plan or two. Instead, it’s about implementing a way of thinking in a youngster’s life. So how can you go about teaching your children to live each day of their lives with a consciousness about the environment? There are countless ways - and many resources to help you do it.

To begin, there are a number of ways to implement environmental consciousness in the home - from energy and water conservation to recycling. Urge your child to turn off the television or the lights when they leave a room, and to be water-conscious during showers and while brushing their teeth. It’s also important to teach them how to separate recyclables - a lesson that can be particularly fun if you explain what happens to all those bottles and cans once they arrive at a recycling plant.

Another great way to instill environmental consciousness in your kids is to start a compost pile in your backyard. Once again, you’ll have to teach them what they can and cannot place into a compost pile and why – which can be incredibly interesting and thought-provoking for children.

However, environmental consciousness in the home is only part of it. After all, kids spend much of their time in school, where they’re exposed to many opportunities to practice eco-friendly habits. Aside from some of the same environmental practices in the home - such as recycling, energy conservation and a compost pile - an interesting lesson plan could be introduced by Kansas Teacher Organization in their classrooms. From computer programmes and websites dedicated to environmental consciousness to games and lessons held outdoors, the opportunities are endless when it comes to teaching kids about being environmentally responsible in school.

Many schools also take the initiative to invite representatives from recycling plants to talk to school children; helping students further understand the recycling processes and their effects on other environmental issues - like climate change. So, if you’re teacher or a parent with a child in school, it may be an idea to start teaching them about the environmental issues faced with today, and about their role regarding the environment; now and in the future.

Second, their role in relation to the environment, now and in the future.Generate Free Energy

Compliance testing clearly establishes the fact that by implementing a product by a certain implementation specification caters to all the compulsory factors that are necessary. It also ensures the fact that these important factors or elements are operable and are ready to function without any issues. Implementation Specification has expanded over the years and has become more complex. With the increasing upscale in technology, it only demands that compliance testing methods should be much more rigid.

An environmental compliance specialist must always adhere to certain rules when it comes to compliance testing. Compliance testing methods need to be formed in accordance to the specifics. This in turn helps as it facilitates a programmed operation. Testing methods should be able to solve all issues and break hindrances that act as disturbance in operations. The entire purpose of compliance testing is to ensure that all procedures are followed and there is a certified and products are tested before actual operations begin.

All electronic products can be damaged if not kept under supervision. Leaks, rusts and metal corrosion are common factors that occur when it comes to all the technology components being used. Hence, testing methods on a product or system used for industrial purposes are always strict as fault in products can have adverse effects. Common tests that are undergone are radiated immunity tests, radiated emission tests, powerline immunity tests for surges and dips. After a series of these tests, it can be confirmed if the product or system is efficient or not. Storage tanks need to be regularly maintained and supervised in order to void problematic situations. A constant upkeep and maintenance program can enforce the reliability element in these systems.

UST compliance testing revises the entire working manner of these systems. It may be a lot easier for companies and firms to go about their business without having to worry about interruptions in their systems functioning process. Although many testing procedures are used for such applications, sometimes it is the staff body of professionals that also play a pivotal role. This means that if these engineers are not aware of the know-how of dealing with the equipment, there can be some serious performance issues.

Compliance testing is carried out to ensure that all underground storage tanks are kept and maintained to the optimum level. This ensures that the site provides all its services to the best of its capabilities. Environmental compliance testing makes sure there is a perfect balance and the products and instruments used are thoroughly eco-friendly.

If you are someone who is looking into getting an ISO 14001, then you may be wondering exactly why it is that you have to get this accreditation. First, you have to understand that ISO stands for the International Organisation of Standardisation. This is a series of standards that have been developed with a singular level of guidance for all companies to measure up to. The particular 14001 deals with the requirements that you will need to have in order to measure up to the environmental standards that have been set forth by the ISO.

While you do not necessarily have to get the ISO 14001 accreditation to operate your business, it is something you can do to prove to your clients and customers that you are doing your part to help out with the environment. However, you may be confused on how to go about getting this important accreditation, but it is not as difficult to attain as you might think, and most businesses should be able to get the certification within a year of the application. You should know that they will want to make sure that you have been following some form of environmental standards for at least three months prior to your application. To do this you can write an environmental review of your company’s environmental impact as it is in its current operating state. You will then want to make sure that you provide this information when you send off your initial paperwork to begin the overall process.

In order to help prove that your company is doing its part to be environmentally aware you will have to go through an initial audit once the application has been filled out and filed. After the audit has been completed you will get a list of issues that the auditor feels you need to resolve before you can be certified for the ISO 14001. You will need to work on and correct these issues before the second audit is conducted, and they will give you a time period (usually three to six months) when they will return to check on your progress.

When the second audit occurs they will once again assess the overall business and then they will address the issues that were laid out in the previous audit. If everything goes well then your company will have proven that they are doing what they can to meet the standard set forth in ISO 14001, and they will then receive accreditation. However, this is not the end of the process. Even though you are now recognised as having environmentally conscious policies that are congruent with the international standards, you will have to go through periodic audits every three years to make sure that you are still operating correctly. Not only this, but every three months partial aspects of your company will be analysed to see that they are still working within the standards as well. As long as you remain within the compliance terms you will continue to receive your ISO 14001 certification.

As previously announced in the summer of 2009, the US Environmental Protection Agency will be putting into place some stronger guidelines to boost up the requirements that it had previously issued in 2008 to protect the more sensitive members of society, our children. The changes to the Environmental Protection Agency’s guidelines will fittingly come into effect April 22, 2010 which is also the environmental Global Day of Action taking place across the world as a part of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day events that will be taking place in the month of April. The heightened requirements will build upon regulations that have been helping to protect the public from lead paint exposure in homes and public buildings.

The new requirements will go farther to create a safe environment in any area where renovations are being done in buildings with lead-based paint which is common in buildings erected before 1978. Included in the new requirements will be guidelines for safety procedures in work practices and protective gear requirements. Also required will be more extensive testing for lead residue to ensure that any renovation projects haven’t inadvertently increased the levels of lead particulate in the building.

Children are particularly sensitive to lead in their environment because they are still developing and lead disrupts the ability of neurons to talk to the cells around them by way of blocking certain neurotransmitters. This is also why lead is so detrimental to pregnant women; lead crosses the placental barrier and compromises the developing fetus’s formation.

Symptoms of damage caused to the body by lead poisoning are varied; differences in levels and lengths of exposure tend to manifest in varying ways depending on the individual. Symptoms may include neurological problems such as headache and memory loss, organ problems such as kidney failure, abdominal pain, and reproductive issues, as well as the more general problems of appetite loss, drowsiness, clumsiness, irritability, learning issues, depression, personality changes, and behavior problems. Children or adults who have lead toxicity will also often find that they have a persistent metallic taste in their mouth.

Hopefully these new requirements will help the building and renovation industry deal with the menace of lead paint in a safer manner. Because lead toxicity can come from a variety of vectors, not just ingestion; the more prevention that we can have in place, the fewer cases of lead poisoning will potentially occur.

Did you know that approximately 90% of businesses worldwide are made up of small to medium sized enterprises? SMEs also provide 50-60% employment, playing an important role in the development of the society. Small and medium sized companies are also an important factor in ensuring social welfare but sadly, initiatives related to corporate social responsibility have been mainly focused on multinationals and large companies. Experts believe that CSR is as important for small companies as it is for large firms since SMEs also have stakeholders and their impact is also significant for the society.

There are limited numbers of case studies that show small enterprises behaving in a socially responsible manner. According to industry experts, if a large number of small and medium level companies start making investments in the local communities, it will be easy to transform various social and environmental issues. It will help reduce poverty levels, provide more employment and also solve the problem of homelessness. For various transnational corporations, SME social responsibility can be improved if their supply chain risks are controlled. Issues such as child labor, health, environmental or safety problems in small and large companies are mostly found in developing countries. Therefore, significant changes will be required in this sector and the government will have to encourage small companies to make sure that CSR activities are undertaken and such issues are solved.

There are some who feel that corporate social responsibility can have a negative impact if it is implemented on small companies in developing nations. It will not only increase the costs but the companies will also face difficulties in competing in the market. They believe that good results will be shown on the basis of how CSR is integrated in small business activities. But all said and done, corporate social responsibility represents an approach for doing business in a better manner so; it should be promoted to SMEs. By following CSR activities, small companies can easily manage environmental impact and bring down their costs. They can also retain good employees and exercise leadership in the market to make a difference.

BlueStone was formed in February 2005 to serve as a general contracting firm in Minnesota's lake home and cabin industry. Co-owners Larry McCulley and Jim Raboin had extensive commercial and residential contracting experience prior to BlueStone but recognized babyboomers from Minneapolis to Fargo (and beyond) were inmigrating up to Minnesota's lake country.

There is a real need for long distance lake home owners in remote regions locating expert, creative and trustworthy general contractors who can build lakehome masterpieces no matter how large or small. And finding one who is skilled in the ever restrictive environmental issues surrounding building at the lake is even tougher. As a result, BlueStone was created to serve long distance clients who want to build something more substantial at the lake but perhaps don't know who to connect with to get the job done.

Our strategy is simple. We have assembled a team of quality individuals, craftsmen and supply companies we take with us on every project. It doesn't matter where your lake property is located in Minnesota or Wisconsin. This is how we manage the construction schedule and project costs. It is also how we bring upper end quality craftsmanship no matter how remote the building location.

We even have one customer who has moved up to an island on Lake of the Woods. Literally all materials will be barged in over summer or trucked in over ice during winter. Their project is a multimillion dollar endeavor. It takes real planning and a vivid imagination to build on a rock up there. And getting the job done at a fair price is even more remarkable.

What is your first step if you are looking for a quality lakehome design/build general contractor? We tell our customers, "The first step is for you to invite us out to see your lake property." This is a practical approach. We need to see the property and all that is entailed with it. You need to meet your team in order to get acquainted with key individuals from BlueStone.

At your first meeting you will meet our architect, contractor and environmental specialist. These three players will identify approximately 90% of the issues surrounding your project before the first shovel is stuck into the ground.

For a $1,500 design fee, you will see preliminary design plans from our arichitect that includes preliminary construction costs from our contractor. You will also understand what environmental issues need to be addressed before construction permits are issued.

Seeing your team work for you prior to entering into a formal construction relationship is the best way in determining if there is a good fit. We here at BlueStone know that trust is earned. That is why we look forward to having the opportunity of serving you.

Today’s consumers are growing increasingly savvy when it comes to issues surrounding the environment and more and more shoppers are choosing to support businesses that make an effort to remedy social injustices and environmental issues.

The growing use of the internet makes it easier for consumers to become more informed about businesses and the impact of their operations and as a result consumers are increasingly shopping with their conscience.

The rising popularity of organic, local, Fair Trade, and eco-friendly goods is a fine example of this and if businesses are to win the hearts of both consumers and staff then a realisation that their actions have ethical, social, and environmental consequences is essential.

Modern technologies mean products are becoming more similar in terms of quality so consumers are looking for other ways of making purchasing choices with well over 60% of US adults claiming to consider a company’s business practices when deciding what to buy.

The majority of consumers from the US and Europe hold a more positive image of organisations that support a cause they care about and it even seems that a significant number of consumers are prepared to switch brands if one is more eco-friendly than the other.

The responsibility that businesses have to the local and wider community, the environment and their staff is not to be undermined and is even a determining factor when investors are scouting for companies to place their funds into so there are many reasons why it makes sense for businesses to be ethically aware.

Having a social conscience within business operations involves recognising, acknowledging and acting upon any social and environmental issues that your organisation impacts upon. This could range from paying for carbon offsets in order to help counteract the impact of electricity consumption to simply using earth friendly ingredients in your products.

Acting in a responsible way could involve giving back to the community in which you operate from, by taking part in small scale initiatives like local street clean-up’s or supporting local charity events. Get people on your side by being a good neighbour to the local community and make sure your business presence is a benefit and not a burden.

Corporate social responsibility extends to within the organisation as well and issues such as staff welfare are becoming more prevalent. Truly ethical businesses therefore need to pay attention to staff needs which could range from working conditions to contracted hours and employee benefits.

It makes perfect sense to overhaul your operations in order to be more environmentally friendly or get more involved in a community, all in order to boost your bottom line and businesses that do so are likely to do better than those who do not. Base your business decisions on the social and environmental consequences of your operational activities instead of just the profit margins and realise the true cost of your corporate actions.
